Stonebarrow Hill
Informal Event on Saturday 12 November
Mike Kite (Organiser) writes: Well done Team West Dorset! We had 55 participants - 33 dibbers issued plus 22 accompanying family members. As Dick says, it was good to see so many family groups enjoying their first taste of orienteering. We were missing some of our usual Devon competitors but otherwise it was a reasonable turnout on what began as a horrible day. As for the views when blue skies broke through - wow!
John & Di received many well deserved compliments on the planning. Away from the relative civilisation of White & Yellow, John had designed a devious Orange to test the brain and a tough Light Green requiring tricky choices. The Score was especially evil: whatever route you planned, one or two controls refused to fit nicely in (as a few unwary runners discovered)!
Thank you to helpers for giving their time. It was a fine example of what can be done by a very small but extremely able team! Thanks also to Sarah & the National Trust for their excellent support.
[Chris Branford, who successfully completed the Score, recorded a distance of 6.75km and 200m of climb]
Di and John Tilsley add: Can we add our particular thanks to Judith & David and Tamsin for helping us to collect in controls after the event - without their kind offers of help, we would have been much later home & very tired indeed!!
Thanks also to Mike & Mary for their very efficient organisation, with everything covered.
Yep, Team West Dorset dun good....
